Pure Prairie Spirit: Power Poppy Sneaks Day 2!

Hello peeps and welcome to DAY 2 of all the fun surrounding Power Poppy's brand new clear stamp release of The Abundance Collection! Today's stamp set might look a wee bit familiar. That's because this gorgeous image was first released in digi form in August of last year as Pure Prairie Bouquet. Well, I mean to tell you, Marcella got so many comments begging her to bring this set out in clear form, she listened! This new set -- Pure Prairie Spirit --  comes with that big bodacious bouquet along with a duo of fluttering butterflies that can be placed anywhere you like! Plus, there are some super senties that have such a fun and, dare I say, trendy vibe!

On to my creation!

When I first set sights on those fun little butterflies, I just knew that I needed to try to make them the centerpiece of my card. So, I stamped the little guy on a post-it note and then went about stamping, masking, masking and stamping until I had a line of butterflies along the left side of my panel. I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then, grabbed some Copic markers to bring those little wings to life! I used C03, C05 to darken up the wings and then Y35, YR04, YR07 and R14 on the wings. I highlighted with B0000 and then added a little shading underneath the butterflies with BV0000 and BV00. You can also see I added some dots around my image. I have this super old peg stamp with those dots and every now and then, I reach for it just to add a little pizazz!

Here's a close up for you!

Now, if this layout looks a little familiar to you. There's a reason for that! I am playing along in Ally Cope's Power & Spark Challenge!

For this month's challenge, you need to CASE -- Copy & Steal Everything -- from one of the Bloom Brigade Designers! I happened to love THIS creation - Orchid Hues - from the sweet and talented Christine Okken! I do have a few differences -- I didn't add the band of decorative paper around the middle. And, I did leave off the stitching as well. But, I think if you compare design notes, you'll see the basic layout is there! ;-) If you haven't played along in this month's challenge, click HERE to read all about it and then, like I always say, get those fingers inky! If you play along, you could win a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop! What's better than that?

And that, my friends, is it from me! Time now to pay these lovely ladies below a visit to see how they put Pure Prairie Spirit to use in their own crafting spaces!

Julie Koerber >> you are here!

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to swing by tomorrow to see Day 3 of the Abundance Collection! Tomorrow's set is truly one of a kind and full of Marcella's charm -- sharing a vibrant and beautiful life! You'll have to come back and see what I'm talking about! :-)

Until then!

Let the Abundance Begin! Sneaks Day 1!

Hello all and welcome to the start of something WONDERFUL! If you're anything like me, you've been waiting quite a while for some fresh Power Poppy polymer! I mean, can we ever, truly have enough? The answer... NO! That's why today is extra special because it begins the sneaky peeks by all of the Bloom Brigade -- showcasing the brand new Abundance Collection, featuring five brand spankin' new sets! Oh my goodness -- can you even stand it?

Today's set offers a trio of summer flowers and stylish sentiments, which makes this thank you set a MUST HAVE! Say hello to... Vibrant Thanks!  From Zinnia and Bee Balm to that cute little Coreopsis, you'll be reaching for this set for a multitude of occasions!

On to my creation!

I have to tell you, when Marcy first penned this little flower above (Coreopsis), she said, "Is this too simple?" I responded with an overwhelming... No! I loved the sweet flair of it and just knew for quick and cute creations, it would be just the perfect touch!

That's why for my card today, I wanted to show how this little duo of blossoms doesn't need a lot in the way of fuss when it comes to card making! It is just so adorable all on its own! I stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and then, colored up using my Copic Markers -- RV04, RV55, RV02, RV00, YG03, YG17 and YG00. Then, I highlighted with G0000. Just that simple! I added a little bit of Y35 to the center of the flowers and then, of course, brought a little bling with some glitter glue!

From there, it is as simple as matting it all up adding a little silver cording and a couple of iridescent rhinestones!

And that, my friends, is it! I didn't do anything to the inside of this card. I just left it blank for the when the occasion arises that I need to send this sweet little note on its way! Make sure you stop by and visit the rest of the Bloomies to see where their imaginations took them with this set!

Be sure to stay tuned every day this week and into the weekend! We have five sets to preview with the grand finale and Power Poppy Hop set for July 31st! So, as you can see, there is a whole lot of fun planned between now and then! Just in case you missed it -- Power Poppy did unveil its newest member of the Instant Garden yesterday! Check it out peeps!

Isn't that divine? You can find Monarch & Milkweed HERE in the Power Poppy Shop! Thanks so much for stopping by! I will see you back here tomorrow when we share how a beloved digital stamp set has found its way into polymer! Woot Woot! Won't want to miss it!

Colorful Recap for YOU!

Happy Friday folks! I have a fun little recap to share on the 'ole blog today and it revolves around the colorful combo we unveiled earlier this week on The Blog over at Power Poppy!  Have you checked out this week's.....

I love this little challenge because it really encourages us all to look to some of the less used hot spots on our own personal color wheel and grab some combinations that we might not normally reach for! That's a good thing, right? It's called -- getting out of the comfort zone!

This week's inspiration is one that touches my heart. Anyone who knew Marcella's amazing, artful, creative, joyful, exuberant, charismatic, and endearing mama --- Susan -- knew that she loved her New York Times crossword puzzles. So, when I spotted this photo below on Marcy's IG feed, I knew we had to make it the centerpiece of a Hues to Use Challenge. This is a photo below of Marcy remembering her mama and rising to the crossword of all crossword challenges in honor of this special lady. On top of that, who doesn't love a good, vibrant, and "contrasty" combo of pitch black, alabaster white and cardinal red?

On to my creation! Not too long ago, I was walking around my neighborhood and spotted the most beautiful red azalea bush in full bloom. Honestly, living in the colder climate that I do (Montana), I didn't think we could grow azaleas. So this, my friends, was a bit of additional inspiration for my Hues to Use project for the week. Take a gander at this beauty, will you? This isn't my neighbor's plant but it looks just as vivid and lush!

Source
And so, after gazing on these rich red blossoms, this is what I came up with!

I started with Power Poppy's stamp set Azalea, stamped it in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and then, grabbed these Copic marker colors to get started!

I have to admit, coloring in shades of red is NOT my strong suit. Soooo....this was more than just a color challenge for me. It was an out and out challenge. Red has, in fact, always been the trickiest color for me. That's why I just breathed in the photo above before I even got started -- just to try to plan my color attack. I will say that I started dark to light with this one so that I could try to better control where the dark shades went. And this was the result.....

While it wasn't easy for me. I am rather pleased with how the coloring turned out! I actually might not shudder in my shoes next time I decide to go red! Moving on from there, it was all about the fussy cutting and matting. I grabbed bits and pieces from my decorative paper stash. Some of the paper is from My Mind's Eye. Some of the paper is from Stampin' Up. All of it is forever old! So, I was glad to be able to put some of these papers to good use! And that, my friends, is it!

BEFORE I LET YOU GO, I HAVE SOME
EXCITING NEWS!

Starting next month, those who play along in the Hues to Use challenge just might earn a spot guest hosting the post! In turn, that person will get access to some of the prettiest images on the planet! We'll supply a digital stamp set and let you strut your stuff! So again, how do you get in on the action? Play along! Marcella and I will be selecting people based on Hues to Use entries starting next month! So get those fingers inky and take these Hues to Use for a test drive and put cardinal red, pitch black and alabaster-white into creative play!

Now it's time to turn things over to my stampin' sistahs -- the Bloomies! Stop by, say "hi" and, take in just some of what they've been up to in their crafting spaces!

Buzzin' In With a Color Challenge!

Happiest of Fridays Peeps! If you are a fan of  'The Blog' over at Power Poppy, then this little post below might be a re-run of sorts for you! I posted there and now, I am posting my card and inspiration.... here on my little space on the web! Each Tuesday, yours truly hosts this little challenge below to help you kickstart your creative week!

While scrolling through Ms. Marcella's Instagram, I stumbled upon this whimsical wonder and just knew the color scheme could help spark creativity! Say "hello" to the Idea Garden full of the skilled handiwork of the Master Gardeners of Champaign County, Illinois. I love those beautiful purple puffs, a.k.a. Allium, that just appear to stand at attention! So, this is how our color palette for this week's Hues to Use sprouted with shades of vibrant violet, weathered grey, and leafy green. See?

This is how my creation began! I used Power Poppy's Asters Abuzz digital stamp set and colored it up with my Copic markers using a mix of leafy greens in G21, G24, G28, YG00, a bit of vibrant violet using V00, V01, V04 and V06, and the grey, I saved for my card layout. You can see I used some light blue Copic markers to add some pop and fizz with some stippled accents!

So, I have a confession to make. It's actually a tragedy to share! :-( So, I colored up this image above and decided that I needed to cut out this image with a die cut circle. So, I put my little image in my Spellbinders "sandwich" and started cranking! Well, when I opened it all up, I didn't see the die that had been stuck to the other side of my die machine plate. OH. MY. GOSH!

THERE WAS A SCALLOPED EDGE DIE THAT CUT OFF THE TOP PART OF MY IMAGE!

Instead of throwing away my colored up and cut up image, I decided to make lemonade out of lemons! After staring at it for what seemed like an eternity, I decided the only thing I could do was to cut it up further with a 1-1/4" circle punch. So, with one eye closed, I worked to "save" what was left!

And this is what I came up with!

I have to admit, It was tough "recovering" from my mishap! HA! But, I actually do love how this turned out and made the image more of an accent to the sentiment than the other way around.

Here's a closeup of those little fuzzy bumbles....

And, did you notice that my card is two-fold? This little creation also could be in the running for this little challenge!

So, my sweet stamping friends, now you have TWO ways to challenge yourself this week! Hues to Use.... and this month's Power & Spark Junebug Challenge, which urges you to add a little bug to your card or creation!

Thanks for stopping by my friends! I'd love to see you put vibrant violet, weathered grey and leafy green to the test! When you do, make sure to link up your creation HERE! I cannot wait to see what you come up with! Seeing you share your creative endeavors makes my heart smile! ;-)

As you go hopping along your way, make sure to pay these fine ladies a visit to see what wonderous paper creations they've whipped up ... just for you!

Good Vibe Friday!

Good Friday to Y'all! I am not sure if you've been checking out the Power Poppy blog on Tuesdays but yours truly is hosting a new color challenge of sorts! It's where we find inspiration in real life and put those colors into card making play!

This past Tuesday's little color exploration features a favorite of Ms. Marcella's! Just set your sights on this little firecracker on two wheels below!

If you didn't know it, Marcella's beau, Doug, loves to fix up vintage bikes. If you scroll through Marce's Ista-stream, man-oh-man you see the passion those two have -- and the soirees that they organize -- all for the love of the vintage bike! So, I thought it especially fitting since Marce just celebrated a birthday yesterday (she's not 46 -- she's forty-sassy!), that we'd honor this little number in this week's Hues to Use! Check-check-check-ity it out! So grab those shades of firecracker red, electric yellow and go-go green --- and get to creating!

On to my creation! On Tuesday, I shared how summers are such a busy time for my family. My daughter plays travel softball and when Tuesday rolled around we were already on the road -- hundreds of miles from my craft room! So, this is what I shared-- just a colored up creation using Power Poppy's digital stamp set Juicy Strawberries!

Well, it's amazing what a difference a few days makes! I grabbed some spunky red and green decorative paper and went... to... TOWN! ;-) Here's the result!

Just in case you wondered, I grabbed my Copic markers for this little number and reached for YG03, YG17 and YG67 for the go-go greens! I used Y13 and Y35 for the electric yellows and then reached for R20, R32, R27 and R29 for the firecracker red strawberries! As you can see, I accented with some white gel pen and then highlighted my image with Y00 and YG0000 just to add a bit of glow! I also used some different card making dies to pull off this card layout for a super bright and perky creation designed to share some love with a friend!

Here's another little closeup for you!

I hope you play along and see where this trio of colors can take YOU! Once you do, be sure to click HERE and link up your creation so we can all see! ;-)

Until then, the Bloom Brigade is on standby, waiting to share some of their crafty goodness! Be sure to hop on over to these lovely ladies' blogs to see what they've been up to this week! I know you will leave their spaces inspired!

Let Your Creativity Soar!

Hello folks and Happiest of Fridays to YOU! Are you ready to take flight with a brand spankin' new challenge designed just for Power Poppy Creative PEEPS? Well, being that it is a new month, there's a new Power & Spark Challenge and this one already earned its wings! Yours truly is the hostess this month so I invite to take a creative step back and... check it out!

HOW TO PLAY: This little challenge has us in search of digital and polymer winged creatures to help our creations soar! For our Junebug Challenge, all you need to do is use a 'bug' on your card! Just that simple -- ladybug, buzzy little bumble, beautiful butterfly, it's up to you!  You'll have to click on over HERE to see the official rules! I've also rounded up a fun little list of all the fabulous winged wonders in the Power Poppy Stamp Set arsenal that you can easily grab to get in on this challenge action!

On to my creation! I had this digital stamp set  -- Climbing Clematis -- printed and ready to go and had it laying on a stack just waiting to be colored so I thought -- no time like the present!

This card is really pretty easy peasy! I used die cut shapes to get literally every cut. The sentiment is also from the Climbing Clematis digital stamp set and the paper is a mix of Stampin' Up and some scraps from my decorative paper bin. I had a blast coloring this image and really love the vibrant colors. I used my Copic markers, of course, and reached for B60, B63, B66, RV00, G20, G21, G24 and G28. The butterfly was colored with Y35, YR04 and YR07. The whole image was highlighted thanks to RV0000 and R00. Then, when all was said and done, I did accent the little fluttering butterfly with some white gel pen and some sparkle gel pen as well!

Here's a close up for y'all!

And that, my friends, is it! I almost forgot to mention -- if you play along and are the lucky winner for the Power Poppy drawing, you win a.....

Inspired By..... A Porch Pillow!

Hello all and Happy FRIDAY! I hope your week is ending on a high note and that you have glorious plans ahead for the weekend! If you missed stopping by my place here last week, you might have missed something new on the Power Poppy blog. Marcella is putting together the Good Vibe 5 -- a hit list of inspiration to get that crafty mojo flowing!

This week, I helped her with one of her Mood Board "cues" and didn't have to look very far for my inspiration. I was sitting on my patio!

Immediately I knew I could do fun things if I mixed a graphic pattern background with a digital stamp. If you are cocking your head and wondering -- how did she do that?? Well, we have a tutorial over on the Power Poppy blog that shows you how to do that with your digital images! Just click HERE to see!

I started by searching for a black and white graphic background that I could use as my base and found this one.....

From there, I decided I would lighten up the background to more of a charcoal gray and then, following the digital tutorial, do an overlay using Power Poppy's Flowers, Always digital stamp set!

After erasing the background of the digital stamp, I got to coloring. As you can see, I had fun just pulling my Copic Markers out -- left and right! ;-)

Also, after I was finished with a section, I did go back and add some accents with a white gel pen just for "funsies!"

And here's a look at the finished card! Sure, I could have really tried to imitate the flower from the pillow -- my goodness Marcy has a plethora of flouncy flowers that would have fit that vibe -- think Tree Peony, Camellias, or even just the flower portion of Hellebores -- but I wanted to use this image for it's whimsical and free-flowing effect!

I love the graphical punch! As you can see I added a sentiment from the Countryside Bouquet Deluxe stamp set and there's also a little bit of shading that I did around the flowers with a C3 Copic Marker just to give the image just a little bit more depth. Mat this baby up and... Voila! Done!

Now it's time for the....

What's your MOOD?

Hello all and Happy Friday! Power Poppy is unveiling a little experiment in the creativity department and I decided to jump in with both feet. If you haven't stopped by the Power Poppy Blog yet, you really need to! Marcy is unveiling her Friday Good Vibe 5! What's that, you say? Five little nuggets of inspiration to serve as your creative kickstart for the weekend. Look for this post to change up from week to week sharing all kinds of goodness to get your mojo-a-flowin'!

One of the first good vibes was Marcella's Mood Board -- a "trigger" if you will -- to get that creativity rolling. She wants us to use this photo and see how we can morph this vibe into a card!

Look at those yellows, the movement in the tile, and the pattern created just from the tile's grout lines. I took this image and used it to spark this below!

I used Power Poppy's stamp set Sweet Memories to make a frame around my sentiment and here's how! I just used one of the single stems and thanks to some Post-It Notes, was able to mask and fit my image perfectly into my die cut shape!

While the die was still on my paper, I used this as a mask helping me to sponge some Dandelion Memento ink around the edge.

Before lifting the die, I traced a very light pencil line around the inside of the die. I wanted to use my same die cut shape as a mat (as you'll see), so tracing this line was important to serve as a cut line for my detail scissors.

And from there, I made one-inch squares using a kind of "tile inspired" decorative paper and then set them all down on a black mat for my card front! You can see how the mat came together. I used a sentiment from Power Poppy's Dynamic Duos Foxglove and Ranunculus stamp set. I colored this image up with Copic Markers and used Y00, Y02, Y13, Y15, YG00, G21, G24 and YG63.

Here's a little close-up for you!

And that, my friends, is it! Like I said, be sure to check out the Power Poppy Blog for even MORE inspiration to kick off your weekend in creative style! And, while you're hopping, don't forget to pay these lovely ladies-- The Bloomies -- below a visit!

Sharing a Little Power & Spark!

Hello all and welcome to another fun-filled Friday! I have to say, this day is proving to be my favorite day of the week for so many reasons. One of which is sharing a little bit of Power Poppy inspiration with you to help jumpstart your creative weekend!

Before I forget, did you know that Power Poppy has a brand new 'sprout' in their Instant Garden? If you want to take a peek, just click HERE to see one of Marcella's newest illustrations that you can download, print and then color up right quick! Squeee! I am using this new digital stamp for my card today so you'll be able to see it in full color first! ;-) Here's a little peek at the new set Plant Kindness!

This fanciful set offers flower-filled seed packs and heirloom plant listings, rosy-faced journals and calico garden gloves — these are a few of Marcella's favorite things! Color up this cheery gardening vignette for a quick card and plant a little kindness along the way! Just click HERE to see!

While you're here, however, you need to check out our latest Power & Spark Challenge hosted by the most fab Aussie I know- Ms. Kathy Jones!

HOW TO PLAY: This challenge is just as it sounds -- it's all about FRAMES! Just hear what Ms. Kathy has to say about her challenge to us all!
"This challenge is as easy as Framing It Up! Simply frame your image on a card, decorate a frame or frame your stamped piece as a bit of home decor!"

Do you want to know something super fun? When it comes to the Power & Spark Challenge, Ms. Marcella has UPPED THE ANTE when it comes to the winnings! Now, instead of winning a stamp set of choice you actually win a.....

$50 SHOPPING SPREE AT THE POWER POPPY SHOP!

Just click HERE for all the official details!

Okay moving on! Because I just couldn't wait to color up Power Poppy's newest digital offering, I decided to mix it up and use it while playing along in Kathy's new Frame It Up Challenge! I had so much fun, I decided to make TWO projects for today!

This first one is pretty self-explanatory. Print the digital image, color with Copic markers (too many to list!) use a pair of rectangle die cuts to create a frame for around your image, distress/sand the frame (used C'ordination cardstock) for an earthy feel, sponge main image with Ranger's Antique Linen Distress Ink for a little added depth, mat onto card decked out in bright, springy colors and accented with candy dots and a bit of jute!

Here's a close up!

And here's how I decked out the inside! The little strip of herbs along the left side of my card was done using some Memento Cottage Ivy ink and one of the stamps from the Sage Advice clear stamp set!

Now one funny thing happened while crafting the card. I had printed this image below to use on the inside of my card but I printed the Plant Kindness sentiment entirely too large! So, I grabbed more stamps from the Sage Advice stamp set and stamped those around the sentiment, decked it out with some paper piercing and added a dark green mat and voila!

Now you might ask, what are you going to do with that? Well, I am following Kathy's lead in this Frame It Up Challenge and using this as a statement to ponder in a space on my work desk! I had this little easel and thought it just fit perfectly there!

And that, my friends is it -- a card and a little reminder to live each day planting and sharing a little bit of kindness and love! 💗

Now, it's time to pay a visit to some of the sweetest stampin' sisters a gal could ask for.... THE BLOOMIES! Just click on through our linky list and see what kinds of wonderful they've been up to!

Thanks for stopping by and spending a bit of your day with me!
