All About Love....

What do you say to a woman who has been your friend through ups and downs through thick and thin, through old creative pursuits and new exciting endeavors? What do you say when she is about to step into a new and beautiful chapter of her well-lived life?

Well, let me take a stab at it because this woman happens to be Ms. Marcella Hawley. Tomrrow at 5:30 PM CST, she and the love of her life will pledge their love and with the celebration of vows and a kiss to seal the deal, she'll be Mrs. Douglas Scronce!

Just check out these two love birds, will you??? Those little photos of fern and woodsy greenery is just a teeny weeny sneaky peek of the look Marce is going for on her big day. So unique. So whimsical. So Marcy!

Marce, you are an absolutely amazing woman. You constantly amaze me with -- for lack of better words -- your beautiful human nature. You teach me on a daily basis what it means to truly care for others, to give them your best. I told you before that for me to give you advice on your new married life would be silly. You and Doug already have all the "ingredients" for a beautiful recipe for marriage. The way you honor eachother is something that is a testament to love. It's beautiful and I know the two of you are going to just traipse through life from one adventure to the next. I so wish I was there just to capture a bit of the magic that will soon unfold. Cherish your special day sweetie and know you are loved by so many -- including me!

Because Marcy's decor inspiration board included some succulents for her centerpieces, I decided to make a wedding card to honor this theme using Power Poppy's Succulent Singles! I created the front thanks to just a little handiwork in PhotoShop and then, stamped and masked all around the names & date. It was hard, as you can see, to center it all up and I didn't really do the best job but, overall, I think it was a fun effect! I pretty much used every shade of green I own in the YG shades --- YG00, YG03, YG06, YG17 along with BG70, BG72, G21, G11, G20, G24, V01, V04, V06, before highlighting with BG000 and BG0000. I also added, which you can't see in any of the photos, some Wink of Stella clear pen. This really sparkles in real life when it hits the natural light, which is super fun and ramps up the wedding feel!

Here's a close up, you can see that I added a little dimension to portions of this spray of succulents!

From there, I matted this on pearl green Bazzil card stock - again, you can't really see the pearl sheen, but it's there! Then, I added some pale pink satin ribbon and a layer of white sheer with an irridescent edge for another pop of razzle dazzle. I kept the razzle dazzle on the down low for this because Marce is more of a simply elegant lady! ;-)

I'm not the only Bloomie posting today! There is a whole slew of us and it's all a part of this...

Check out our Bloom Brigade and Instant Gardener Team creations and heartfelt words as they help celebrate this happy and beautiful couple!

And, if YOU want to send Marcella away wishing her a lifetime of happiness, please HOP ON OVER HERE leave your sentiments in the comment section! I happen to know Marcy reads each and every comment and this would just be icing on her wedding cake knowing you care enough to share the very best with her!

💗💗💗 All the best to you Marcella & Doug! 💗💗💗

Krafty Christmas Coloring!

Hello all and happy Friday to you all! I have a fun little card to share that's actually showing off not one, but two Power Poppy Challenges going on as we speak! On top of it all, I actually have a Christmas card to sock away for when I need it later this year. I know! Say it isn't so!

So, let's get right into all this fun, shall we? Earlier this week, Kate Sanders ushered in this little color challenge for Hues to Use showing off a bit of late summer flair! You can check out the deets on this fun-filled party HERE!

Earlier this month, Christine urged us all to partake in....

You can read all about this little challenge HERE!

And so, my sweet stamping friends, I decided to tackle both with my creation for today!

I knew I wanted to use one of Power Poppy's brand new additions to the Instant Garden for this one! Who doesn't just love coloring up new images, so I printed off this baby -- Merriest Berries -- which offers up three different images with a few beautifully scripted sentiments to match! I printed it off on kraft card stock and then.... grabbed these!

I honestly don't think I've touched my Prismacolor Pencils in an eternity. So, this was good to try my hand at a different medium for a change. When I started coloring, you can see my little mistletoe branches had quite the shade of mint going on there....

The beauty of colored pencils, as many of you know, is the fact that layering color can be done with ease. This shade still peeks through but you can tone it down by reaching for greens that are more grassy or even olive as I did! See?

You can see that I also took some cool shades of Copic and added a bit of a shading underneath my image. I should say that I did this before I started my coloring. I've been told that because of the waxy nature of Prismacolor pencils, you do not want to touch your Copic marker nibs to this because it will likely get gummed up thanks (or no thanks) to the wax.

And this, my friends, is my finished card! I added some antiquey decorative papers, a half doily and some gilded twine and... ta da! Done!

Here's a close up for you! You can see that do add back in some definition, I did use a Copic Fine Liner over top. I know I just told you that I didn't want to touch my Copic Markers to this waxy surface but for the liner, I did. I risked it! ;-) I think the result was worth it, just to bring back some of that fine line....

And that's it from me today! Be sure to hop on over to see....

These ladies have some fine works of art on display and they'd love it if you hopped on over to pay them a visit!

Thanks for spending a bit of your day with me! I have some coloring projects on my desk... as we speak... so I know I'll be back soon to share with you all! :-)

Have a great weekend!

My Small But Mighty Craft Closet

Hello folks! First off, I have to say that I spent ALL DAY yesterday going through tubs of stamps and I have added A TON of stuff to my sale page...

I am getting rid of a ton of Spellbinders dies and have added a bunch of red rubber cling stamps -- all of which are in new or like new condition for dirt cheap! THESE THINGS ARE PRICED TO SELL FOLKS!  I just need to make room and decided if I didn't have time to use these beauties, they should go to someone who can put them to good use!

You might ask, you need to make room? You've been downsizing for a while now, haven't you?

The truth is, when we moved into our new house last March, we decided not to finish the basement right away, which is the future home of my craft space. Yep, sad but true. Sometimes, there are just more important things that pull on your finances -- like braces for the kiddo or school tuition or that softball camp, sending the boy child to college or.... you get my gist! So, I thought I'd share my little crafting  room closet with you all! It is literally a 5-foot by 5-foot walk in closet that I claimed. I told my husband in no uncertain terms that this closet was mine. I married a pack rat and if I didn't, he'd decide that those bank statements from 20 years ago (yes, this is the truth) needed a shelf or two. Love that man but... golly! Heavy sigh.

So, here's a peek. I wanted to show that, with some planning, you can cram a whole mess of stuff in a small space!

This is obviously a view from the door. You can see we have a few shelves added for plastic bins which house all kinds of buttons, embellishments, ink pads, glues, etc. -- basically anything that's small and would love to sit in a drawer! The two black bins (from the dollar store) at the top have glue runners and finished cards. Two white bins toward the right have pre-cut cards and envelopes in every color of the rainbow, ready to rock and roll as soon as a card front is done. Black and white patterned bins house die packages and embossing folders. Those bins from Thirty-One Gifts were the perfect size for these things! Ribbons are in jars on the bottom of the bookcase as are my Spellbinders machine and a plastic covered tub full of acrylic blocks.

On the wall behind the door, I added small hooks that I picked up at Lowe's over the years ($6 to $8 apiece) and as you can see, they house all my dies. Did you see I am selling a ton of these HERE?

On the third shelf, I have four of these little bins I picked up at Target for clear stamps. All of my stamps are placed in THESE Avery Elle sleeves to keep those little polymer stamps in their place! I did add a piece of white card stock to serve as a backer so I could better "see" my stamp sets! I have them in alphabetical order so I can also easily find them!

Here's a close up of those bins I mentioned earlier! I love that they have a handle so I can grab and go if need be.

Along the other wall, I have cubbies that house paper and have a few extra drawers for wood stamps. the material cubbies have ribbons and scraps, some larger punches and large 12" paper pads.

And, here's how I store my colored and decorative card stock -- in file folders arranged according to color group.

And then this guy was a lifesaver for ink pad and reinker storage!

I got this from a store that went out of business for free and it houses my Copic reinkers nicely! Soon, I'll outgrow it but for now, it works!

And there you have it my friends, my humble little craft closet. You might ask. If this is a closet, where do you craft. Well, this is the closet attached to the home office. So, I pull things from the closet and craft here....

You might say, wait a minute, you have a room! Well, I have to work here too. As a writer, my desk is USUALLY covered with papers, article clippings, notebooks full of my deadline schedule, etc.

So, there you have it peeps -- my little corner of the creative world! Maybe some of my tips might help you store more per square foot! ;-)

A little racy.....

Hello peeps! Just in case you missed the unveiling over on the Power Poppy blog earlier this week, I thought I'd share it right here on my little 'ole place on the web! I have to say, I love hosting Hues to Use and finding a bit of color inspiration in the most unusual places!

Here's a peek at this week's color palette, which was captured on a fun little marketing piece Marcella designed that truly embodies the love she has not only for "her man," but "her man's hobbies!" Doug, if you didn't know it, loves to fix up vintage motorcycles and "kicks it vintage" regularly with his lady at a monthly get together with fellow enthusiasts. So, when I spotted this card done by Marce herself promoting an upcoming event, I said, "YAAAAASSSS!" This must be our muse for Hues to Use!

With the color combo above as my guide, here's what I came up with my sweet stamping friends!

To create this little moto-inspired wonder, I started by printing off the Power Poppy digital stamp set Well Hello Dahlia. I then colored it all up using Copic markers and chose these shades for the flowers: YR68, YR04, YR07, Y02, R14 for the large flower; Y15, Y35, and Y38 for the yellow flower off to the right; BG01, BG04 for the right vase; BG000 and BG10 for the left vase; R01, RV00, and R32 for the left flower; G20, G21, and YG67 for the greenery and B00, B91, B93 and B95 for the center vase. The bottoms of the vases were shaded with BV0000 and BV01. The highlight around my image was done with G0000.

Here's a little close-up!

After that, it was all about matting it up! I used a few different sizes of pennant flags and then, added the little Well Hello Dahlia sentiment thanks to a 1-3/8" circle punch matted on a shape cut by a 1-1/2" circle punch. Add a little twine-strung button and... ta da!

And that, my friends, is it! So soak up these shades and get crack-a-lackin' with your craftin'! Once you're done, don't forget to link up your creation on THIS POSTSharing your talents could have you taking center stage on the Power Poppy Blog as the guest hostess with the mostess! Now, wouldn't that be fun!

Speaking of fun, it's time to head on over and pay these lovely ladies a visit!

Hues to Use!

Hello all! Goodness, it has been a while since I've posted here on the ole blog. Life has been speeding by and I guess it shows here! Well, I have some fun to share. Have you ever played along with us over on the Power Poppy blog for this little challenge a.k.a Hues to Use????

Every Tuesday, either myself or one of Power Poppy's fabulous guest designers spin the color wheel and use a little creative inspiration from Marcella's Instagram feed. The result is a trio of colors that you can use to mix it up in your crafting spaces. This week's color combo ushers in some summer shades as summer fades. Say hello to Finn, Marcy's son, who happens to not only love baseball, he plays the sport as well. Look at that swing, will ya? So, in honor of Finn's take at the plate, we look to the skies as he earned that hit and grabbed a wee bit of sunny peach, a splash of blue violet and a dash of warm yellow out of that killer sunset.

And, my friends, here's my take on the color combo!

As you can see, I took the color scheme and bumped up the saturation a bit. I didn't realize until after I got started -- gathering all my pieces and parts for my card -- that I really didn't have any paper in these dusty colors. So, I modified it a bit!

After stamping my image from Power Poppy's So Grateful stamp set in black ink, I colored everything up with Copic markers. I started with the bluish purple flowers and grabbed B60, B63 and I blended with V01 and V0000. The centers were done with Y15, Y35, and YR09. The berries were colored with R24 and R39. The dahlias were a bit more intense when it comes to color. I moved from YR00, YR04, YR07, R14 and then I blended some of the flower with Y02 and Y11. The leaves were colored with G21, G24, YG00 and G20 and accented a bit with a wee bit of rust. I honestly don't remember what shade I grabbed, however. I added some shading with YR0000 and YR00. I also accented a bit with the help of a white gel pen.

Here's a close up....

I kept the layout simple and just layered a few die cut edges with fun decorative paper. I added a sentiment flag to bring out the yellow in the 'Hues to Use' then, finished it all off with some twine and a little wooden button and... ta da! I should mention, the sentiment is from the In Praise of Sunflowers stamp set!

So, what are you waiting for? Dig into these sunset-inspired shades and then, link up your creation HERE! And, guess what? Your creation could spark an invitation for YOU to be a guest designer for one of Power Poppy's upcoming Hues to Use blog posts. Just click HERE to find out all about it!

It's Release Day Peeps!

Hello all and welcome to the final day of the Abundance Collection Sneak Peeks. In fact, we can't even call them sneaks really because ALL of the sets that you've been seeing snippets of this week are LIVE in the Power Poppy Shop -- right now! Click HERE to see all of the sets and get a glimpse of them in their full glory!

Today, the Bloomies have one last new set to share before we close the books on all of this release fun! It's a fun set that takes the vintage cloche -- basically, a glass covering used to protect plants, goodies or decor -- and makes it a super fun accent for cards of all kinds!

On to my creation!

While there are a handful of different vignettes in this set -- Under the Glass -- I loved the one with a beachy theme! Living in "land locked" Montana, the ocean calls me. I love the sand between my toes and the sound of the ocean waves. That's why I just had to take some serene colors of Copic markers and bring this image to life!

I started by stamping with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then reached for light oranges, peaches and a ton of markers from the "E" family -- E31, E33, E04, E51, E53, etc. to color up the pitcher, the sand and even that darling little clam shell!

When I was done, I did add some Stickles Rock Candy, to give the sand a little shimmer. It's a glitter glue that adds dimension without going overboard on the razzle dazzle that other glitter glues offer.

Here's a little close-up! Sadly, the glitter portion doesn't really show in photos -- just a nice add in real life!

And that, my friends, is it! Before I go, I did want to tell you about......

Dahlia XL: Power Poppy Sneaky Peeks Day 4!

Hello folks and welcome to day 4 of the Power Poppy Abundance Collection sneaky peeks! I sincerely hope you gasped when you saw this beautiful and bold blossom above! What a sight for the eyes, huh? Just think of all the color combos you can entertain with Dahlia XL! This is Power Poppy's second addition to its XL collection of supersize flower stamps — a Dahlia modeled on the exquisite and popular cultivar 'Cafe Au Lait'. Be. Still. My. Heart!

On to my creation!

I have to start by saying that this photo below was my inspiration! When I "Googled" Dahlias in search of just the right color scheme, I stumbled upon this breathtaking photo!

I love the mix of golden yellow, the hint of orange, the pale pink and vibrant shades of violet intermixed in what can only be described as 'nature's glory!' I knew there was no way that I could even copy the hand of Mother Nature, but I was going to have a whole lot of fun trying!

And so, my sweet stamping friends, here is my attempt!

I stamped this big and bodacious Dahlia using Memento Tuxedo Black ink (a really juicy ink pad!) and then started reaching for my Copic Markers. I chose RV00, RV02, RV06, RV55 and RV17 for the pink petals and then I added in a little V01, Y35, and Y13 for the yellow and purple tipped portions. I have to say that I took my sweet time coloring this. There was no rushing, only experimenting!

Here's a close up of how it all turned out!

From there, it was simply matting it up. I used my paper trimmer to trim up to the edge of the petals and then fussy cut around that outer edge, doing the same thing on both sides. I layered up some paper, added a stenciled background thanks to a Tim Holtz stencil, a sponge dauber and some Distress Ink in Spun Sugar. Add some sequins and a white embossed sentiment on black card stock and.. ta da! C'est fini!

There are so many different ways you can use this larger than life flower and I just know, as you make the rounds to the rest of the Bloom Brigade, you will see those different ideas coming to life in their creations! So, stop by and see what these fine ladies below have in store!

Tree of Life: Power Poppy Sneaks Day 3!

Hello all! Goodness, I hope you are enjoying the sneaky peeks this week from Power Poppy, because I sure have loved making the hop myself to see all the ways you can use this fresh crop of clear stamps! Today's set is just as charming as the other stamp sets from the Abundance Collection that the Bloomies are showing off.

Take a gander at Tree of Life! As Marcella penned this set, she shared how she has been forever enchanted by the different depictions of the Tree of Life -- from branches reaching for the stars to those trees that are small, curvy and stylized. This, my friends, is her take. With this stamp set you'll find a tree that is chocked full of leaves, fruit and feathered and furry friends plus beautifully scripted sentiments to compliment these illustrated beauties! So incredibly charming!

On to my creation!

I have to say that I did indeed stare at this image for quite a while after stamping it in black ink. I wondered - what color should the birds be? What about the flowers? Should I have a vibrant or deep green for the leaves? After all the staring, I just started reaching for my Copic markers and I went to town -- leaning more toward vibrant colors. I loved adding more purple to the pomegranates and making the birds a deep and dusty teal. Here's a sampling of the colors that I used: YG00, YG13, YG17 for the leaves; BG70, BG72, and BG000 for the birds; R81, R83, and RV00 for the flowers; R24, R39, and R21 for the berries; E31, E33 and E27 for the tree limbs; R39, V01 and V000 for the pomegranates. I also added a little Y00 around my image to highlight it. You can't really see it in the photo but in real life, it is a subtle glow! :-)

Here's a little close up for you! You can see that I did add a few white gel pen accents here and there!

And here's another close up showing off that little bird accent I added to my oval sentiment!

And that, my friends, is it! If you can't tell, I am pretty enamored with this set! It truly is perfect for all kinds of cards and occasions and a pure delight for just those times when you need to pop a little "thinking of you" creation in the mail!

Want to see what the other Bloomies did with the Tree of Life? Stop by and say "hi" to these gals and see what they whipped up... just for you!

Julie Koerber >> you are here!

Be sure to swing by tomorrow when we hit day 4 of our 5-day release! This stamp set is big, bodacious and offers up so many different color combinations that I am sure you'll find it swoon-worthy! ;-)

Until then!

Pure Prairie Spirit: Power Poppy Sneaks Day 2!

Hello peeps and welcome to DAY 2 of all the fun surrounding Power Poppy's brand new clear stamp release of The Abundance Collection! Today's stamp set might look a wee bit familiar. That's because this gorgeous image was first released in digi form in August of last year as Pure Prairie Bouquet. Well, I mean to tell you, Marcella got so many comments begging her to bring this set out in clear form, she listened! This new set -- Pure Prairie Spirit --  comes with that big bodacious bouquet along with a duo of fluttering butterflies that can be placed anywhere you like! Plus, there are some super senties that have such a fun and, dare I say, trendy vibe!

On to my creation!

When I first set sights on those fun little butterflies, I just knew that I needed to try to make them the centerpiece of my card. So, I stamped the little guy on a post-it note and then went about stamping, masking, masking and stamping until I had a line of butterflies along the left side of my panel. I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then, grabbed some Copic markers to bring those little wings to life! I used C03, C05 to darken up the wings and then Y35, YR04, YR07 and R14 on the wings. I highlighted with B0000 and then added a little shading underneath the butterflies with BV0000 and BV00. You can also see I added some dots around my image. I have this super old peg stamp with those dots and every now and then, I reach for it just to add a little pizazz!

Here's a close up for you!

Now, if this layout looks a little familiar to you. There's a reason for that! I am playing along in Ally Cope's Power & Spark Challenge!

For this month's challenge, you need to CASE -- Copy & Steal Everything -- from one of the Bloom Brigade Designers! I happened to love THIS creation - Orchid Hues - from the sweet and talented Christine Okken! I do have a few differences -- I didn't add the band of decorative paper around the middle. And, I did leave off the stitching as well. But, I think if you compare design notes, you'll see the basic layout is there! ;-) If you haven't played along in this month's challenge, click HERE to read all about it and then, like I always say, get those fingers inky! If you play along, you could win a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop! What's better than that?

And that, my friends, is it from me! Time now to pay these lovely ladies below a visit to see how they put Pure Prairie Spirit to use in their own crafting spaces!

Julie Koerber >> you are here!

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to swing by tomorrow to see Day 3 of the Abundance Collection! Tomorrow's set is truly one of a kind and full of Marcella's charm -- sharing a vibrant and beautiful life! You'll have to come back and see what I'm talking about! :-)

Until then!

Let the Abundance Begin! Sneaks Day 1!

Hello all and welcome to the start of something WONDERFUL! If you're anything like me, you've been waiting quite a while for some fresh Power Poppy polymer! I mean, can we ever, truly have enough? The answer... NO! That's why today is extra special because it begins the sneaky peeks by all of the Bloom Brigade -- showcasing the brand new Abundance Collection, featuring five brand spankin' new sets! Oh my goodness -- can you even stand it?

Today's set offers a trio of summer flowers and stylish sentiments, which makes this thank you set a MUST HAVE! Say hello to... Vibrant Thanks!  From Zinnia and Bee Balm to that cute little Coreopsis, you'll be reaching for this set for a multitude of occasions!

On to my creation!

I have to tell you, when Marcy first penned this little flower above (Coreopsis), she said, "Is this too simple?" I responded with an overwhelming... No! I loved the sweet flair of it and just knew for quick and cute creations, it would be just the perfect touch!

That's why for my card today, I wanted to show how this little duo of blossoms doesn't need a lot in the way of fuss when it comes to card making! It is just so adorable all on its own! I stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and then, colored up using my Copic Markers -- RV04, RV55, RV02, RV00, YG03, YG17 and YG00. Then, I highlighted with G0000. Just that simple! I added a little bit of Y35 to the center of the flowers and then, of course, brought a little bling with some glitter glue!

From there, it is as simple as matting it all up adding a little silver cording and a couple of iridescent rhinestones!

And that, my friends, is it! I didn't do anything to the inside of this card. I just left it blank for the when the occasion arises that I need to send this sweet little note on its way! Make sure you stop by and visit the rest of the Bloomies to see where their imaginations took them with this set!

Be sure to stay tuned every day this week and into the weekend! We have five sets to preview with the grand finale and Power Poppy Hop set for July 31st! So, as you can see, there is a whole lot of fun planned between now and then! Just in case you missed it -- Power Poppy did unveil its newest member of the Instant Garden yesterday!
